Commemoration of International Youth Day and Pakistan Independence Day 2018
Pakistan is considered to be among the developing countries with the youth bulge constituting approximately above 60% of total population below the age of 30 years considering them youth population. As per Punjab Youth Policy 2012 the age criteria for young population is between 15 to 29 years.
A Scheme of Punjab Youth Events has been inititaed by the Youth Affairs, Sports, Archaeology and Tourism Govrnment of the Punjab and International Youth Day is one of the events of Punjab Youth Events.
The department of Youth Affairs, Sports, Archaeology and Tourism Govt. of the Punjab has commemorated the International Youth Day and Pakistan Independence Day 2018 in collaboration with Bargad Youth Organisation. The International Youth Day is celebrated on August 12 universally. Both events were celebrated on 14th August 2018 at Punjab Institute of Language and Culture (PILAC) Lahore.
This year’s theme of the event was SAFE SPACES FOR YOUTH which was aligned with Goal 11 of 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda which emphasized need for the provision of Space towards inclusive and sustainable urbanisation.
International Youth Day is an awareness day designated by the United Nation. Many countries participate in this global event to engage youth in becoming more actively involved in making positive contributions to their communities.
The event was attended by Chief Secretary Punjab as chief guest, Secretary YASAT Government of the Punjab, Director General Sports Board Punjab. Director General Archaeology Government of the Punjab, other senior officials and participants & Volunteers.
Objectives of the International Youth Day is:
- To promote the voice, influence, and participation of young people;
- To bridge the gap between government and youth of Punjab;
- To gather the youth of Punjab at one platform to celebrate the International Youth Day;
- To showcase the youth talent at provincial platform;
- To make the youth realize their potential as well as their role for community development.
